Headshot of Scott McLellan

Although my memory is vague, when my grandfather was mayor of Bay City, Mich., I met the Bay City Rollers, a Scottish rock band that threw a dart at a U.S. map and changed their name when it landed on Bay City.

Experience

I work with my clients to develop cost-effective benefit strategies. My goal is to ensure compliance with myriad regulatory requirements and reduce the administrative burdens associated with providing health and welfare benefits. I’m known for my expertise surrounding the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and alternative financing arrangements (i.e., self-funding and group captives).

My clients consider me to be an extension of their organization. I help them demystify healthcare, so they can make sound business decisions in a manner similar to how they make all other decisions. In short, we use actionable data and analysis to drive the decision-making process.

With nearly 30 years of experience in this industry, I’m very proud to have participated in the growth of Plante Moran Group Benefit Advisors. In the last decade, the size of our group has tripled, and with it the breadth of services we can provide to clients.

Frequently, I speak to many different industry groups on current topics, such as alternative financing, advanced cost containment strategies, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, and other general benefits strategies.

I have a B.B.A. in financial administration from Michigan State University. I’m an active member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Farmington Hills, Mich.

My wife and I recently became empty-nesters, and have purchased a 22-year-old boat. We expect to spend countless hours restoring it, and a few hours enjoying it on the Great Lakes. I also enjoy golf and attending MSU football games with family and friends. I’m also a barbeque aficionado.
