Headshot of Josh Englekemier.

Muhammad Ali lived in my hometown of Berrien Springs, Mich. In high school, I worked for a pool cleaning company that serviced his pool. During that time, I personally cleaned the pool and met him multiple times!

Experience

I provide financial statement audits as well as various internal audit and risk management services to our clients with a strong focus on the design and effectiveness of internal controls and financial reporting. I also help lead the financial institutions practice development team in Iowa and other regions.

My clients include community banks, credit unions, and other lending institutions with a range of asset sizes but primarily above $1 billion in total assets. Recent areas of expertise include the adoption and accounting for the allowance for credit losses, derivative instruments and hedging activities, model validation, and specialization in the indirect lending, mortgage, and secondary market industry.

My clients appreciate that I’m genuine, honest, and easy to work with on challenging, complex matters. They appreciate my commitment to delivering quality and service, including dedicating my direct time and appropriate resources to understand their business, find pragmatic solutions, and meet their needs.

With almost 15 years of experience, I routinely present to client boards and audit committees throughout the year on technical accounting and industry updates. I also speak periodically at industry conferences and webinars, including the Plante Moran Financial Services Symposium. I’m one of the firm’s representatives and members of the Financial Managers Society and Iowa Bankers Associations.

I received my B.A. and M.S. in accounting from Michigan State University. I’m a member of the AICPA and the Illinois CPA Society.

My friends and colleagues will attest that, outside of work, one of my favorite pastimes is following the athletics of my alma mater, Michigan State University. My wife and I enjoy international travel, spending time with friends and family, and exploring new restaurants and activities around our neighborhood in downtown Chicago.
